Several SIPA students engaged in a vigorous debate over the value of the Peace Corps – to its volunteers and to the communities it serves. The Peace Corps is the single largest former employer of SIPA students, and the student group for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers claims 76 members.

SIPA’s Center for International Conflict Resolution (CICR) hosted its 11th annual Peace Building Fieldwork Symposium on September 26.
Zachary Metz has led the peace building class since its inception. “There was a move from a paradigm of conflict resolution to a notion of building something," he said. "The class tries to answer the question: What can we bring of value to this field that does not do harm… not making it worse is itself its own endeavor.”

SIPA has appointed new leadership to help ensure students’ successful experiences with the School both on their way in and after they leave.
Grace H. Han is SIPA’s new Executive Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. She will work to recruit students from around the globe who belong at SIPA because of their desire to make the world a better place.

Scott Pesner is the School’s new Director of Alumni Affairs. He will work to increase SIPA’s engagement with its 17,000+ alumni around the world, and to enrich their engagement with each other.

Veronica Conforme (MPA ‘06) has been named Chief Operating Officer for the New York City Department of Education.
"I grew up in the Bronx and am a proud graduate of New York City’s public schools," said Conforme. "So I have a deep affection and respect for our education system."
