Jean-Marie Guéhenno knew he faced a challenge when Kofi Annan asked him to be the deputy joint special envoy of the UN and the Arab League for Syria. “But you don’t pick and choose,” said the director of the Center for International Conflict Resolution, who is also the Arnold A. Saltzman Professor of Professional Practice at SIPA. “Even if you know the odds are very low, you have got to try.”

Economist Jan Svejnar has been honored for his long record of distinguished work with a 2012 Neuron Prize from the Prague-based Nadační Fond Karla Janečka (NFKJ), or Karel Janeček Endowment for Research and Science. Svejnar is the James T. Shotwell Professor of Global Political Economy and director of SIPA's Center on Global Economic Governance (CGEG).
