The Spring/ Summer 2010 issue of the Journal of International Affairs focuses on Russia's global future.
 
The Journal of International Affairs is produced entirely by SIPA students. To launch the issue, Katrina vanden Heuvel from The Nation moderated a panel discussion, featuring Stephen F. Cohen, NYU; Nina Krushcheva, The New School; and Lincoln Mitchell, Harriman Institute.

Hassan AbbasHassan Abbas authored "Inside Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province: The Political Landscape of Insurgency," released by the New America Foundation. Professor Abbas investigates how different political and religious forces have influenced the state of affairs in the province in recent years.
 
Albert Bressand published "European Integration and the Development of a European External Energy Policy in Eurasia" through the Global Public Policy Institute's Research Paper Series. Professor Bressand examines the search for a European external energy policy and its implications on EU integration or disintegration.
 
Wojciech KopczukWojciech Kopczuk published "Earnings Inequality and Mobility in the United States: Evidence from Social Security Data since 1937" in the Quarterly Journal of Economics. Professor Kopczuk and co-authors Emmanuel Saez and Jae Song utilize data from the Social Security Administration to examine the evolution of inequality and mobility in the U.S.
 
Lisa Anderson published "The Ex-Presidents" in the Journal of Democracy. Anderson is the former Dean of SIPA and the James T. Shotwell Professor of International Relations on public service leave as provost of the American University in Cairo. In her paper, Anderson examines the factors that influence leaders' decision to leave office voluntarily and their behavior after leaving office.
School
Dual Degree Links SIPA and São Paulo: As part of the effort to expand its network of global partners, SIPA has established a new dual degree with a school in São Paulo, Brazil. The deans from SIPA and Fundação Getulio Vargas Escola de Administração de Empresas de São Paulo (FGV-EAESP) signed the agreement in New York on May 3. The first class is expected to enroll in the fall of 2010. More
 
Game Change: Obama and the Clintons, McCain and Palin, and the Race of a Lifetime: Authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann discuss their best-selling book Game Change, a behind-the-scenes look at the 2008 presidential election. The discussion was co-hosted by the Graduate School of Journalism and moderated by Columbia University's Alan Brinkley. Watch the video here.
 
10th Annual Global Leadership Awards: The event on April 29 honored two individuals and a not-for-profit organization that exemplify the qualities and achievements that SIPA seeks to embody: Newsweek's Fareed Zakaria, the World Bank's Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Partners In Health. More

Josh LockwoodJosh Lockwood (MIA '97) was named to Crain's New York Business "Forty Under 40." Lockwood has been Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity - New York City since 2007. The annual award honors New York business leaders who have achieved success in their fields before reaching their 40th birthday. More
