Suresh Naidu Awarded Prestigious Fellowship for Political Economy Work

Back to News & Events

First-year SIPA Professor Suresh Naidu has been recognized as a star scholar in the making.

Professor Naidu was awarded a prestigious two-year junior fellowship from the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR). The fellowships are intended to help young and gifted scholars build their research and leadership capacity early in their careers.

CIFAR junior fellows are embedded in one of twelve interdisciplinary research programs. Professor Naidu will work as a program member within “Institutions, Organizations, and Growth.”

Scholars who have completed their PhD within the past three years are eligible for the fellowships. The Junior Fellow Academy aims to provide opportunities for growth and the chance to work with top researchers in Canada and around the world.

Professor Naidu teaches economics, political economy, and development at SIPA. His research focuses on the relationships between politics and economics – particularly the history of slavery and economic development in the U.S. south.

He previously served as a Harvard Academy Junior Scholar at Harvard University, and as an instructor in economics and political economy at the University of California at Berkeley.
