Michael Doyle Receives Top Honor from Fellow Political Scientists

Congratulations to SIPA Professor Michael Doyle, recipient of the 2011 Hubert H. Humphrey Award from the American Political Science Association (APSA).

The Hubert H. Humphrey Award is presented annually in recognition of notable public service by a political scientist. The 2010 recipient was David Petraeus, former commanding general of U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan and director-designate of the Central Intelligence Agency. Previous honorees also include former SIPA Dean John Ruggie, SIPA alumna Madeline Albright, Richard Cheney, Daniel Patrick Moynihan, and Brent Scowcroft.

Doyle is the Harold Brown Professor of U.S. Foreign and Security Policy at SIPA and Columbia University. He specializes in international relations theory, international security, and international organizations.

Previously, Doyle served as assistant secretary-general and special adviser to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the board of the International Peace Academy.


Doyle received the award at APSA’s annual conference in Seattle on September 1.
