Earthquake In Japan: A Message From Dean John Coatsworth

Back to News & Events

March 14, 2011

Dear Members of the SIPA Community,

Part of being a member in SIPA’s global community is that tragedy occurring anywhere in the world hits home. Our hearts and minds are with the people of Japan, and especially with our 53 current Japanese students and more than 450 alumni residing there. The entire SIPA staff is committed to doing everything possible to support them during this terrible time and as they start the long journey to recovery.

We also are working to support the safety of our 21 students traveling to Japan this week, as well as faculty members who are in the region for academic purposes.

As always, the most poignant relief efforts are made by our students and alumni themselves. As fundraising and other aid work begins, we will work to raise awareness of and support for these efforts throughout the community so that all of us can find some way to help. In addition to notifying any SIPA staff or faculty member directly, please use and refer to SIPA's Facebook page to share and see important information on how to become involved.

Yours,

John H. Coatsworth
Dean
