PEPM Candidate to Represent Russia at European Bank for Reconstruction and Development

Back to News & Events

Denis Morozov (PEPM ’11) has not yet graduated from SIPA, but already has lined up a high-profile position that is making international headlines.

The Moscow Times announced that the Russian government has appointed Morozov to serve as that nation’s director on the board of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. He fills a seat that was vacated amid a corruption scandal – a case which remains under investigation.

Founded in 1991, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) helps build market economies and democracies in 30 countries across Europe and Asia. The EBRD was initially established to support former communist countries and help them build private sectors.

The EBRD provides project financing for banks, industries and businesses - both new ventures and investments in existing companies. It also works with publicly owned companies to support privatization, restructuring state-owned firms and improvement of municipal services.

The EBRD is headquartered in London and owned by 61 countries and two international institutions: the European Community and the European Investment Bank.

SIPA’s Tim Shenk (MIA ’11) spoke with Denis Morozov about the position. Hear or download the interview here.
