João Souza e Silva

Marcelo Ballvé

Over the last eight years, João Souza e Silva has migrated between East-Timor and Brazil. His professional experience has varied between government and non-government actors. While working with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in East-Timor, João worked with humanitarian operations and logistical support on programs assisting Timorese refugees languishing in Displacement Camps and subsequently returning to their homes. Later, João joined the team of international advisors responsible for supporting the implementation of the National Recovery Strategy of the Government of Timor-Leste, which was based on a grant´s transfer scheme, and thus João was seconded to the government to assist with the implementation of the program´s administrative components. In his latest appointment, he was responsible for overseeing the technical support team that IOM provided to the Government, successfully wrapping up the program after three years of return and reintegration activities. In 2011, he returned to his home country of Brazil to continue his studies, concentrating on the Dual-Degree Masters in Public Policy and Management at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, and Masters in Public Administration at SIPA. After graduation, João intends to work with public policy development in Brazil, particularly focusing on poverty alleviation and conditional cash transfers.
