Karine Castro

Karine Castro is concentrating in Political and Economic Development with a specialization in Latin America. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Pontificia Universidade Catolica (PUC) in 2003. In the following year she traveled to New York to participate in a summer training program at Globo International, Brazil’s biggest television network, where she interned as a production assistant for broadcasting daily news. Concluding the program, she was offered a position at BrMedia, a Brazilian communications agency that specialized in the creation of web TVs, community newspaper and products for digital and interactive media. During almost five years, she worked researching, interviewing, writing and editing story ideas and content for local community newspaper and Brazilian websites. This past summer, Karine complemented her studies with an internship at the Immigration Foundation, where she developed and disseminated press releases and assisted the organization with the planning and managing of projects developed for the US immigrant Latino communities. After graduating, she plans to apply for jobs in international organizations and non-profit organizations.

Jorge Paulo Lemann

Jorge Paulo Lemann co-founded the investment banking firm Banco Garantia and helped grow it into one of Brazil’s most prestigious and innovative investment banks. Lemann and his partners then purchased a Brazilian brewery that became InBev, one of the world’s largest beverage producers.
