Mark Whitlock, a program associate at CICR, is the current manager of the Advanced Training Program on Genocide Prevention. He is responsible for all planning and coordination related to the Program. Mark holds a Master in International Affairs from Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) where he concentrated in International Security Policy and Conflict Resolution with particular regard to Africa and the Middle East. Upon graduation, Mark was awarded The SIPA Voice of Conscience Award – an award given to the graduate whose actions best illustrate a meaningful commitment to promoting reconciliation, tolerance and understanding among different racial and ethnic groups. In the summer of 2006, Mark helped design and implement a conflict resolution and peacebuilding program at a major university in Lebanon. Prior to Columbia, Mark has lived, worked and traveled throughout Africa and the Middle East, serving as a biology teacher with Peace Corps Ghana, teaching in Tunis, Tunisia, and researching identity’s role in conflict.
