2013 Capstone Application Q&A Sessions

We will discuss the Capstone workshop program, the application and selection process, and general expectations regarding the Capstone workshop. We will also have a Q&A session to answers any questions.

All students are recommended to attend at least ONE of the sessions:

Thursday, October 18th from 4pm-5pm

Friday, October 19th from 1pm-2pm

Friday, October 26th from 3pm-4pm

Spring 2013 Capstone Faculty Orientation & Reception

Spring 2013 Capstone faculty advisors are cordially invited to attend the orientation and reception, with opening remarks by Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Dan McIntyre. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.

SIPA Capstone Closing Reception

In recognition of the achievement of the Capstone participants, SIPA’s Interim Dean, Robert C. Lieberman, will host a reception at SIPA. Refreshments will be served.

3 Capstone teams will be selected to present at the reception (no more than 5 minutes). If a team is interested in this opportunity, they must send Suzanne Hollmann (sph2103@columbia.edu) a brief prospectus of the project, no longer than one page by April 20th. It should include a brief description of the problem, the methodology your team used and the solution or impact you expect to have. The selection is based on the quality of the proposal and the diversity of the clients represented for the 2012 spring workshops.

Capstone Information Sessions

We will discuss the Capstone workshop program, the Capstone survey, the application dates and selection process, and general expectations regarding the Capstone workshop. We will also have a Q&A session to answers any questions that you may have about your upcoming Capstone workshop.

All students who plan to take a Capstone workshop in fall 2012 or spring 2013 are encouraged to attend.

SIPA Capstone Mid-Term Presentations

The SIPA Capstone Presentations are intended to provide an opportunity for teams to present their initial findings and discuss analytical issues or problems they are having. Teams will briefly summarize their work to date and present expected outcomes.  Teams will be grouped based on the nature of their workshop and will be given 15 minutes to present to a panel of Capstone advisors followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. All students are expected to attend the presentation.  Panelists will be composed of Capstone faculty advisors and will respond with methodological and analytical suggestions.

Spring 2012 Capstone SIPA Liaison Orientation

Spring 2012 Capstone SIPA Liaisons are each team are required to attend this orientation. The orientation will review the responsibilities and the administrative duties of the SIPA Liaison. Lunch will be served.

Interview Information Session

Led by Director of the International Media, Advocacy and Communications Specialization, Anya Schiffrin, the Interview Information Session will provide Capstone workshop participants with the basic interviewing skills and tips.
