Registration for SIPA Instructor Permission Courses
Certain SIPA courses require approval by the instructor before a student is permitted to register. Reasons for Instructor Permission Courses include checking pre-requisites, giving priority to second-year students, and/or to maintain a class size appropriate for the course. These SIPA Instructor Permission Courses are listed on the SIPA Registration Website, the MIA/MPA Course Registration Guide, and on the Directory of Classes as “Instructor Approval Required”.
Students cannot register for SIPA Instructor Permission Courses by phone or web. Students must register in person for SIPA Instructor Permission Courses.
Step 1. Submit On-line Request Form
Deadline: Noon, Thursday, January 17, 2008
- To apply for SIPA Instructor Permission Courses, students must submit a one page request by 12 noon, January 17, 2008. Submissions must be made online via the SIPA Registration Website (http://sipa.columbia.edu/academics/sipa_registration/index.html). Instructors select students based on the information contained within the request.
Step 2. Instructor Permission Course Results
- The list of students accepted into the SIPA Instructor Permission Courses will be posted at the SIPA Registration Site on the 6th floor after 1 PM on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 . The list will also be posted on-line on the SIPA Registration Website.
Step 3. Register for Instructor Permission Courses
Deadline: 5:00 PM Friday, January 25th, SIPA Registration Site, 6th floor, Stetton Lounge
- If you have a been approved for a SIPA Instructor Permission Course, you must fill out a Registration Add/Drop form and come to the Registration Site to register in person.
- The deadline to register for a SIPA Instructor Permission Course for which you have been approved is 5:00 pm, Friday, January 27th. Failure to register within this time frame may result in the forfeiture of your space in the course.
- Students on the waitlist will be notified via e-mail during the second week of class if they can register for the class.
NOTE: Once a course capacity limit has been reached, the instructor’s approval cannot override the maximum enrollment for the class.
