Biography:
Wojciech Kopczuk is an associate professor at SIPA and the Department of Economics, as well as a research faculty fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
A specialist on tax issues, Wojciech Kopczuk has published extensively on the topic. Some of his recent works include "Redistribution When Avoidance Behavior is Heterogeneous," in Journal of Public Economics (2001); "The Optimal Elasticity of Taxable Income," with Joel Slemrod in Journal of Public Economics (2002); "Dying to Save Taxes: Evidence from Estate Tax Returns on the Death Elasticity," with Joel Slemrod in Review of Economics and Statistics (2003); "The Trick is to Live: Is the Estate Tax Social Security for the Rich?" in Journal of Political Economy (2003); "Top Wealth Shares in the United States, 1916–2000: Evidence from Estate Tax Returns," with Emmanuel Saez in National Tax Journal (2004); and "Tax Bases, Tax Rates and the Elasticity of Reported Income" in Journal of Public Economics, forthcoming.
Professor Kopczuk earned a BA and an MSc from Warsaw Unviersity in 1996. In 1998 he received an MA in economics from the University of Michigan, from where in 2001 he also received a PhD in economics.
