Biography:
Sara Guerschanik Calvo is a Lecturer in the Discipline of International and Public Affairs and is associated with the Center for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) at Columbia University. She brings to SIPA 20 years of World Bank experience in providing policy advice and training to practitioners in the developing world on economic management issues. The focus of her most recent analytical work is Bolivia in the areas of macroeconomic policy, public sector management, and growth. Prior to joining the World Bank Andean country unit in 2001 she launched and led a discussion group of World Bank staff in the area of economic volatility (the Managing Volatility Thematic Group). During her tenure at World Bank Institute, 1991-1997, she established several training programs for policymakers, parliamentarians, and journalists primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean and the Middle East and North Africa.
Her teaching and research interests are on shocks and growth volatility in emerging markets. The courses she is teaching, e.g., Emerging Market Investment Climate, focus on this topic.
She holds a PhD in Economics from Columbia University; a MA in Science Education from New York University, and a BS in Chemistry from the University of Buenos Aires.
