Biography:
Shane Christensen is the 2009-2010 Davis Foreign Service Fellow at Columbia University. He joined the Foreign Service in 2000 and has held assignments as the acting consular section chief at the U.S. Consulate General in Dubai (2001-03), watch officer at the State Department Operations Center in Washington, DC (2003-04), special assistant to Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul (2004), political and economic officer at the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City (2005-07), and executive assistant to Ambassador Khalilzad at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in New York, USUN (2007-09). With the arrival of Ambassador Susan Rice as the new U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN, Mr. Christensen took on the role of human rights and democracy advocate for the Mission (2009). In addition to his diplomatic career, he is an international freelance travel writer and has authored and updated books on destinations in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and Middle East.
Mr. Christensen holds a master's degree in International Relations from Cambridge University, where he was a Fulbright Scholar, an MPA from Harvard University, where he was a Presidential Scholar, and a BA in Political Science from UC Berkeley.
