Biography:
Lee Bowes has been an adjunct associate professor at SIPA for a number of years, teaching Human Resource Management, Public Policy and Workshops. She is the CEO of America Works, a private for-profit firm located in different cities throughout the United States. Headquartered in New York City it provides employment services for welfare recipients and returning prisoners as well as other disadvantaged groups. In addition to providing employment services, America Works, actively seeks to change and reform public policy. At State and Federal Levels this has included Welfare Reform, Privatization, and Prison Reform to name a few. Dr. Bowes has an undergraduate degree from University of Massachusetts, a Masters from Columbia University School of Social Work and a PhD in Sociology from Boston University. She has published numerous articles on social policy, welfare reform and hiring practices. Her book, No One Need Apply: Getting and Keeping the Best Workers, was published by Harvard Business School Press.
