Biography:
Jane Waldfogel is a professor of social work. Her research focuses on women's employment and earnings, parental leave, child care, and child abuse and neglect.

Waldfogel has authored numerous academic articles, including "Understanding the 'Family Gap' in Pay for Women and Children," in the Journal of Economic Perspectives (1998); "The Impact of the Family and Medical Leave Act," in the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (1999); "The Long-Term Consequences of Non-Standard Work," with M. Ferber in Monthly Labour Review (1998); "The Family Gap for Young Women in the United States and Britain: Can Maternity Leave Make a Difference?" in Journal of Labour Economics (1998); "The Effect of Children on Women's Wages," in the American Sociological Review (1997); and "The New Wave of Service Integration" in Social Service Review (1997). She has also written The Future of Child Protection: How to Break the Cycle of Abuse and Neglect (Harvard 2001).

Waldfogel holds a BA, an MEd, an MPA, and a PhD, all from Harvard University. Prior to teaching, Waldfogel was a social worker and policy analyst for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services and a research associate for the Suntory-Toyota International Center for Economics and Related Disciplines at the London School of Economics.
