Biography:
John Williams has spent the last 29 years as a consultant and advocate for community interests. His early involvement focused on community outreach programs for large infrastructure projects. Since joining HDR he has been involved in community resource management programs from coast to coast as well as the development of a long list of public-private-partnerships involving public buildings, infrastructure, and economic development initiatives. In 2006 he was appointed to his current HDR position of leadership in sustainability, renewable energy, integrated solid waste planning, climate change, and greenhouse gas management. He represents the firm and its client communities in a number of national forums focused on sustainability. Examples of his involvement include: The Global Roundtable on Climate Change at the Columbia University Earth Institute, The Climate Group, The Presidential Climate Action Project at the University of Colorado, and The National Sustainability Leadership Team.

More specifically, Mr. Williams represents HDR as a sponsor of the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Council. He is working closely with USCM staff and HDR's client communities build support for an appropriation bill to fund the EECBG Program.

Most recently Mr. Williams co-authored an article entitled, "Determining the Right Shade of Green for a Specific Community" which describes the use of risk/benefit analysis as well as a Green Jobs calculator to help communities balance the expenditure of resources with environmental objectives. The article can be found in the April 2008 issue of Sustainability: The Journal of Record.
