Biography:
Daniel H. Rosen is an adjunct associate professor at Columbia University, where his graduate seminar China's New Marketplace is popular in preparation for China management careers. Professor Rosen specializes in China's economic development, and writes and speaks extensively on U.S.-China relations. He is principal of Rhodium Group (RHG), a New York-based research firm helping senior executives and directors analyze and understand commercial, economic, and policy trends in China and India.
From 2000 to 2001 he served as senior adviser for international economic policy on the White House National Economic Council (NEC) and director at the National Security Council.
He is a visiting fellow with the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, DC, where he was in residence from 1993 to 1998. His work focuses on the economic development of Asia, particularly China. Other areas of research include energy, agriculture and commodities, trade and environment linkages, and economic transitions and competitiveness.
He is the author of Behind the Open Door: Foreign Enterprises in the Chinese Marketplace (1998) and co-author of China's Energy Evolution: The Consequences of Powering Growth at Home and Abroad (forthcoming 2008, with Trevor Houser), Prospects for a US-Taiwan Free Trade Agreement (2004, with Nicholas Lardy), Roots of Competitiveness: China's Evolving Agriculture Interests (2004, with Scott Rozelle and Jikun Huang), and APEC and the New Economy (2002, with Catherine L. Mann). His first book on the intersection of China's energy sector and environment was Powering China, written with Dan Esty in 1995 for the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation.
He was educated at the Graduate School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and at the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas, Austin. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the National Committee for US-China Relations, and resides in New York City with his wife, Anna.
