Bilge Erten
Part-time Lecturer
Biography:
Bilge Erten earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2010. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the Committee on Global Thought, Columbia University. Her research project focuses on the financialization of commodity futures markets and its impact on the rising price volatility of energy, food, and metals. In particular, it explores the short- and medium-term factors underlying commodity price formation, and seeks to formulate policies that would counteract excessive speculation and reduce unwarranted price volatility. Her other research interests include the role of capital account and macroprudential regulations as counter-cyclical policy tools, and the use of Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) both as an innovative source of development finance and gender equality interventions, and as a relevant instrument of international cooperation. She taught many courses including development economics, macroeconomics, international trade, money and banking, history of economic thought, and international business. A list of her recent publications include the following:
