Biography:
Antoine Halff is head of energy research at Fimat USA, Inc, the brokerage arm of Societe Generale bank, and adjunct professor of international and public affairs at Columbia University (Center for Energy, Marine Transportation and Public Policy). In 2005, he launched the energy practice of the Eurasia Group, a political risk research and consultancy firm in New York, focusing on the interplay of energy markets and geopolitics and directing the energy-relevant work of the firm's team of about 50 regional and country analysts.
From 2001 to 2005, Halff was a Principal Administrator of the Oil Industry and Markets Division of the Paris-based International Energy Agency. His duties there included co-writing the agency's monthly Oil Market Report, as well as briefing member governments on energy market developments. Earlier, Halff was New York bureau chief of the Energy Intelligence Group and spent several years on the oil desk of the Dow Jones newswires, also in New York.
Halff was born and educated in Paris, where he earned an advanced studies degree from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales under the late Prof. Francois Furet. In 1985-1987, he served as staff member of the French Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, teaching French at the local French school. He serves on the editorial board of Geopolitics of Energy and also writes an occasional column on energy geopolitics in Business Watch, a Chinese publication.
