PhD in Sustainable Development Student Profiles
Lily Parshall
Lily Parshall is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Sustainable Development and a recipient of an NSF IGERT fellowship in International Development and Globalization. She is studying climate and energy systems at local to national scales, and much of her work has focused on her hometown of New York. Currently she is investigating the applicability of cogeneration and alternative energies at the urban scale. In the past, she has analyzed urban climate and heat island mitigation strategies in New York, with a particular focus on green roofs. She is also interested in developing country efforts to improve access to energy and has modeled rural electrification scenarios in Senegal and Kenya for the World Bank.
She holds a B.A. in Earth and Environmental Science from Columbia University. Before beginning graduate school, she taught environmental science and outdoor education at the American Community School in Beirut, Lebanon.
