Aly Sanoh

Aly Sanoh is a second-year student in the Ph.D. program in Sustainable Development. His current research is on economic modeling and the cost of rural and urban electrification. He is a graduate of the Center for Applied Energy at the University of Conakry, where his main research consisted of adapting Photovoltaic modules to locally manufactured water pumps. Besides his academic research, Aly assisted and conducted many UNDP workshops particularly in the field of rural agricultural practices.

In 2004, after two years of teaching high school physics and chemistry in Guinea, he joined the Master’s Program in Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Delaware. In this program, his research focused on sustainable energy strategies in developing countries. Aly’s thesis was on investigating decentralized technologies for rural electrification in Guinea.

His research interests include African economic development, community-based rural development, energy resources and technologies, and rural infrastructure.
