Xiaojie Zhang

Xiaojie Zhang
is a second-year student in the PhD program in Sustainable Development. She obtained her B.S in Agricultural Science and Technology and B.A. in Economics from University of Maryland- College Park in 2010. During her undergraduate study, she worked on various natural science projects, including molecular biology, plant pathology and soil science. She also conducted research on international agricultural technology transfer systems. Her honors thesis studied the gender gap of cotton productivity in Uganda in the framework of the World Bank Gender Action Plan.

Her research interests lie primarily on agriculture and community-based development in Africa. She hopes to weave environmental concerns and humanity research into project designs and public policies and to develop a social-economically and environmentally sustainable development approach.
