  • A two-night fall weekend retreat, typically the 2nd weekend after the start of classes in September.

  • An annual fall field trip, alternating year-to-year between a policy trip and an operations trip; these are open to members of the concentration and to SIPA at-large if space permits.

    • Operations Trip – Tours of Fort Bragg and Norfolk to gain understanding of military operations and tactics across several services.

    • Policy Trip – Meetings in Washington, DC with policymakers from government and nonprofit sectors to understand U.S. policymaking process (this trip included visits to State Dept., Defense Dept., CSIS, NSC, U.S. Senate).

  • In the spring, there is a crisis simulation, typically in February. It gives students an opportunity to practice diplomacy, team-building, and crisis-management. It is open to members of the concentration and to SIPA at-large if space permits.

  • The concentration hosts two ISP casual socials each semester, and student program assistants (PAs) typically also schedule at least two happy hours at local venues.

  • There is an ISP internship panel discussion at SIPA in the fall, coordinated with the Office of Career Services (OCS).
