Brown Bag Discussion: "Critical and Ignored: Four Big Issues in International Health Aid"

Come hear SIPA Alum Dan Whitaker speak about his extensive work as an adviser to national governments and international organizations on health sector reform in developing countries. Two big themes discussed will be

  1. what could be described as changing aid architecture, with the rise of single disease organizations and new ways of delivering aid
  2. the intersection of politics and health care within developing countries

The Financial Crisis Six Months Later—Impacts on Developing Countries

When: Tuesday, March 31, 6:00 to 8:00
Where: IAB, Room 1501

What impact will the global economic downturn have on the world's poor? How will developing countries be affected by the current financial crisis? Will large numbers of individuals be pushed back into poverty? What are the likely gender impacts of the crisis? Join a panel of speakers from the academic and policy world to hear their informed perspectives on these critical questions.

Panelists:

  • Jose Antonio Ocampo, Director of the Economic and Political Development Concentration at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs
  • Sanjay Reddy, Assistant Professor of Economics at Barnard College, Columbia University
  • Stephanie Seguino, Professor of Economics at the University of Vermont
  • Robert Vos, Director, Development Policy and Analysis Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, United Nations.
