![]() Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship Application Information and Forms FLAS applications for both Summer 2008 and Academic Year 2008-09 are due Feb 29, 2008. The competition is open to graduate students of Columbia University who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents concentrating in world area studies. Academic Year FLAS recipients must be enrolled in a full-time program of study (either domestic or overseas) that combines modern foreign language training with international or area studies or with the international aspects of professional or other fields of study. Eligible FLAS Middle Eastern Languages at Columbia are: Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Hebrew. Students can apply for study at the beginning, intermediate or advanced level in each of these languages, except in the case of overseas programs of study, which must be at the intermediate or advanced level of language proficiency.
