Welcome to the PEPM Class of 2012

Back to News & Events

The 20th class of SIPA’s Program in Economic Policy Management (PEPM) begins on Tuesday, July 5.

The class comprises 52 students from 28 countries, representing a broad spectrum of cultures and experiences. Most have worked for several years in fields ranging from central banking, government financial budgeting and planning, international economic development, investment banking and asset management, consulting, and journalism.

The 14-month Program in Economic Policy Management is a fast-paced, highly quantitative learning environment. It provides professionals and policymakers from around the world with the skills to craft and implement economic policy, focusing on nations with developing or transition economies.

Students follow three semesters of coursework and one semester of internship or directed study, and are awarded a Master of Public Administration upon graduation.

PEPM operates in partnership with the World Bank. It began in 1992 as a joint effort of SIPA, Columbia Business School, and the Department of Economics. Since then, PEPM has graduated more than 800 policymakers from more than 140 countries. They work around the globe as leading policymakers, CEOs, and development professionals.

“At PEPM, our professors were always pushing us to do more and more, something that we did not always appreciate at the time,” says Muhammad Jamil Nasir from Pakistan, a 2010 graduate. “But after arriving at the World Bank, we realized that we could talk with any staff about any policy matter or issue.”
